MOL Bubi continues to soar with 6 million rides on shared public bikes
In less than a year, the capital's residents have doubled the number of trips on MOL Bubi. BKK Centre for Budapest Transport's public bikes have already been used 6 million times. The mobility manager is constantly expanding its MOL Bubi services to meet growing demand.
After more than two years, the popularity of BKK’s public bicycle-sharing service is still unbroken. By the end of July 2023, MOL Bubi reached 6 million rides.
The public bike system, which was renewed in spring 2021, is rapidly reaching new milestones. In just over a year after its renewal, the number of trips made on the bikes doubled to 3 million in just over a year. BKK awarded the lucky bike user completing the three millionth trip last August.
The company is continuously expanding its MOL Bubi services to meet growing demand. In the past year
- 800 bicycles have been added to the fleet,
- bike stations have been set up in Terézváros, Óbuda, Zugló and City Park,
- popular concert venues, such as Budapest Park, have also become accessible.
As a result, Bubi bikes can be picked up and dropped off at 197 locations in the capital, and thanks to the July expansion, there are now 2,460 bikes available to customers.
MOL Bubi also plays a major role in changing attitudes
MOL Bubi has had a major impact in shaping attitudes among the residents of the Hungarian capital. Every year, more and more people realise that cycling is popular for a reason. It is convenient, economical and often faster than driving in traffic jams, especially when combined with traditional forms of public transport. In Budapest, thanks in large part to the indirect impact of the MOL Bubi, more and more people are also using their own bicycles.
Many of them have got acquainted with urban cycling thanks to the user-friendly app, easy registration and the revamped bikes.
Reminder: always make sure the MOL Bubi is securely locked!
Sometimes, customers lock the public bikes incorrectly, causing a lot of inconvenience to themselves. Therefore, BKK has collected some useful tips to prevent such cases.
- It is important to check whether the rental has been finished (i.e.: whether the smart lock is physically fully closed and three beeps have sounded). This can be confirmed in the app under rentals in progress/usage history.
- Very rarely it happens that the smart lock gets stuck in the wheel spoke and therefore does not close properly. In this case, moving the wheel of the bike can solve the problem.
- If this is not the cause of the lock getting stuck, you may want to tap on the Open Smart Lock button in the app and then lock the bike again.
- If this still doesn't solve the problem, you should always report the issue via the app or customer service.
- For short stops - for example, if you pop in somewhere to buy something along the way - use the parking function, which can be started in the app, and then close the lock after pressing the button.
BKK would like to remind customers to always double check that the MOL Bubi bike is properly locked after use.
