The service area of the MOL Bubi public bike-sharing system has been significantly expanded again. Following the station openings in City Park, BKK has set up seven new stations in Óbuda, from where important transport hubs can be reached by bike. The new stations were inaugurated on 31 March by the leaders of the capital, the district, BKK and MOL.
BKK is continuing the expansion of the MOL Bubi public bike-sharing system this year. At the beginning of March, the network was expanded by three stations in City Park, and now, in response to the needs of the capital's residents, MOL Bubi is being further expanded in Óbuda with the support of the Municipality of District 3, so that Budapest residents can now pick up and drop off their bikes at 190 stations.
MOL Bubi bikes are now available at a total of seven new locations in District 3:
When designing the new stations in District 3, BKK also took into account that MOL Bubi’s service area in Óbuda should include points where it is easy to transfer to the key public transport lines, including the suburban railway line H5 and tram line 1.
The extension was also designed to provide easier access to the hiking and cultural centres in the area, which are popular with residents of the capital.
MOL Bubi serves customers in an ever wider area
In response to the growing demand for public bicycles, not only the service area but also the number of bicycles has increased. Since the service was relaunched two years ago, the MOL Bubi fleet has almost doubled. In 2022, BKK put a total of 500 brand-new MOL Bubi bikes into service, and after the latest expansion of 200 bicycles at the beginning of 2023, there are now 2,260 bicycles available to customers. The number of stations was increased in February with the addition of stations at the Hard Rock Hotel and Orczy tér, and three new stations in City Park.
Thanks to its user-friendly app, easy registration and revamped bikes, the public bike-sharing system has been breaking records since its renewal in May 2021, and recently passed the 4.6 million riders mark.
BKK's aim is to make the service available to as many customers as possible, serving the needs of the capital's residents, and the company will continue to expand the service area and the fleet this year.
A The series of improvements will continue, and the company recommends that those who can should buy their monthly or annual pass as soon as possible to take advantage of the MOL Bubi service. The arrival of pleasant weather can also be an incentive for customers to renew their passes as soon as possible.
